The problem that most school districts are going to run into with having class during vacation is the heat. I live in an area of the country where the schools were built hundreds of years ago and were never developed for air conditioning. As a in these schools I remember having to attend class in sweltering 95-98 degree scorching days and being unable to pay attention or stay awake due to the heat indoors. Most schools in this area still refuse to institute a policy of climate control in the class room due to the fact that the summers are supposed to be mild. I think reversing the schedule of school would help too. Studies have shown that teenagers need more sleep due to the growth spurts they are experiencing, and it would benefit them to start at 9 am when elementary schools traditionally start, instead of at 7:30 or earlier. And another big issue too is no school district rewards their teachers based on merit. They usually reward the ones who have just been there the longest. So often times the worst, burnt out, uncaring, non-engaging teachers are paid well and given lots of clout. Whereas the, hungry, enthusiastic teachers are having trouble finding jobs, are paid poorly. It's funny, free public school for all of the living in the. is a socialist/communist concept. Yet where is the outrage over public schools amongst the crazies who believe that having any sort of socialized institution is going to convert this nation into the USSR?
